Some nursing abbreviations are common throughout the profession and some hospitals and other institutions have some of their own abbreviations. Abbreviations are also used throughout the medical profession and for common medical services and prescriptions. 1.      b.i.d                 = twice a day (for medicine)= 2 kali sehari

2.      t.i.d                  = three times a day          = 3 kali sehari

3.      q.i.d                 = quarter times a day      = 4 kali sehari

4.      p.rn                  = when necessary            = jika diperlukan

5.      2 hrly               = once every two hours   = sekali tiap 2 jam

6.      a.c                    = before meals                 = sebelum makan

7.      p.c                   = after meals                  = sesudah makan

8.      p.o                   = orally                          = lewat mulut

9.      tab                   = tablets

10.  caps                 = capsules
